WEATHER CONDITIONS: overcast and snow showers, wind at 23.6 knots

AIR TEMPERATURE: -1.1 degrees C

SEA TEMPERATURE: -0.1 degrees C

SEA CONDITIONS: rough sea and swell, vessel rolling and pitching heavily at times

ICE CONDITIONS: nil

REMARKS:

Met drifting buoy released Tuesday at 1620. Now in open water and tacking to preserve some stability especially with heavily laden decks. Continuous Plankton Recorder deployed at 0900 this morning. Expect to arrive at Heard Island on Thursday Afternoon. Preparations are well in hand.
