    Samsung Heavy Industries Co., the world's third-largest shipbuilder, says it has clinched an order from a Russian firm to build three ice-breaking tankers worth US$430 million.

  • November 2, 2005 - Web Users Take Wing With Virtual Flyovers - Detroit News
    The University of Alaska-Fairbanks has debuted a web-based program that allows people sitting at their personal computers to view any location on Earth through virtual, three-dimensional flyovers.

  • September 20, 2005 - Greenpeace Exposes Pirate Fishing On The Arctic - Scoop
    Greenpeace stopped a Togo-flagged, factory trawler from illegally fishing for cod in the international section of the Barents Sea known as the "Loophole". Campaigners on board the Greenpeace ship, Esperanza, confirmed with the trawler's captain that he was knowingly taking the cod with no legal quota and was conducting so-called IUU (Illegal, Unregistered, Unreported) fishing, also known as Pirate Fishing.

    CryoSat, a satellite designed by the European Space Agency, has been tested andwill be shipped to Russia next month. This satellite will give detailed informationabout how the world's ice sheets are changing.

    The Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimetre Telescope, or BLAST, has been recovered and the data copied and backed up. Several universities now can begin analysis of the data.

  • June 16, 2005 - Balloon-borne Telescope Touches Down Successfully In Arctic - CBC News
    A high-tech telescope that spent days floating from a balloon at the edge of space has landed safely in the Canadian Arctic.The Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimetre Telescope, or BLAST, is designed to probe the birth of stars and planets billions of years ago.
