Remarks by Suzanne and Gordon:

Nov. 8: Met drifting buoy released Tuesday at 1620. Now in open water and tacking to preserve some stability especially with heavily laden decks. Continuous Plankton Recorder deployed at 0900 this morning. Expect to arrive at Heard Island on Thursday Afternoon. Preparations are well in hand.

Nov. 9: Continuous Plankton Recorder retrieved from final transect at 810. Sailed by McDonald Islands this morning -excellent cloud-free visibility from 0930 to about 1030. Sailed to 4 nm (to point where soundings end). Steam seen 'puffing' strongly from one major point and a few smaller ones!! A good morning for Kodak!! Sked with Heard Island this morning, expect to arrive at Atlas Cove at about 1300.

Five and a half weeks since we left Hobart. Time has flown and yet it hasn't.

Nov 10: Anchored at 1245 Thursday in Atlas Cove. Heard Island Field Leader and Senior Pilot came aboard at 1325 for an operational meeting. Chief Officer and Bosun returned to shore to inspect RTA cargo. Sling loading commenced at 1540. 40 loads including concrete bags, cage pallets, pallets, empty fuel drums and bundles were stowed onboard. One HI expo and aerial camera gear also aboard. All goods for Heard Island were discharged. Heard Island IRBs provided SAR support. Small hut was flown to Spit Point and expos returned to Atlas Cove to consolidate operations and save ship time. Operations ceased at 2020.
