Day Thirty-Nine - Heard Island

Picture Two

Approaching anchorage in Corinthian Bay at Heard Island. Heard Island is a subantarctic island and contains Australia’s only active volcano – Big Ben at over 9,000 ft. It has many glaciers and is home to a wide number of animals and plants. The island is located roughly half way between Africa and Australia. Originally British, it was ceded over to Australia in the late 1940s.
