The berg towers over the people and snowmobiles. Looks like a 30 story building. the sea ice in this picture is dark blue while the ice is very white with clear bands showing ice layers.

19. While visiting the Cape Roberts Camp, we had the chance to take snowmobiles out to see the huge icebergs trapped in the ice of the Ross Sea. Compare the size of the iceberg to the people and snowmobiles.

Helicopter has landed in the Dry Valleys which look like a dry river bed in this picture. A man in yellow outfit is near the helicopter.

20. Another interesting field trip was an evening helicopter ride to the Dry Valleys. This area hasn't had precipitation in a VERY long time (say around 2 million years). The rocks and sediments we were looking at with the Cape Roberts Project were once part of this area.

This looks like a mountain valley with a lake of ice at the bottom and tongues of the glaciers in the crevasses coming down into the valley.

21. We landed on the valley floor and had a wonderful view of the glaciers hanging into the valley.
