Bird huddled on the rocks, possibly nesting. The bird is almost the same color as the rocks.

 

7. ...or maybe another one of the many birds of the subantarctic region. This one is a skua chick.

 

Pod of whales along the top of the waves. One is blowing air out his blowhole.

 

8. Everyone comes out on deck with their camera when wildlife is spotted. In this case, it's a whale! There was some argument as to what species these were - they're either the Southern bottlenose whale or Arnoux’s beaked whale.

 

 

Pancake ice - these flat bits of ice have upturned edges and are quite close together in this photograph.

 

9. Soon the ship begins to reach a patchwork of sea ice. The continent is not far away.
